Caravan and Campsites in Champagne-Ardenne

champagne ardenne

The region of Champagne-Ardenne is usually referred to just as Champagne and is divided into four Departments : Ardennes (Dept. 08), Aube (Dept. 10), Marne (Dept. 51), and Haute Marne (Dept. 52).

The famous names in Champagne production - such as Veuve Cliquot are situated in Reims which also boasts a stunning Gothic cathedral where the kings of France were traditionally crowned. The region's capital is the medieval city of Troyes which is well worth a visit.

The countryside consists of rolling fields- most of which is cultivated - producing wheat and cabbages, amongst other things. There is an abundance of woodland in the Ardennes, and the ancient forest at Verzy houses approximately 1,000 year-old beech trees. The five rivers of Aisne, Aube, Marne, Meuse and Seine traverse Champagne, which is useful for irrigating all the crops but sometimes causes floods.
